A massive Late Bronze Age fortified settlement in Central Europe has been the subject of a new and exemplary investigation by excavation and site survey. Im westlichen Rumänien, in den weiten Ebenen des Banats nördlich von Timişoara, liegt die befestigte prähistorische Siedlung Corneşti-Iarcuri. Sie weist vier Wallringe mit Grabenanlagen auf. Der innere Ring hat einen Durchmesser von ca. 1 km, der äußere von etwa 6 km. Insgesamt wird eine Fläche von ungefähr 1722 ha umfasst.
