This article simply attempts to sketch a series of highlights related to the development of social anthropology in Peru in its professional phase, that is, the period since the 1940s, when the teaching and practice of social anthropology became institutionalized in Peruvian universities. Big and Little Traditions in Guatemalan Anthropology [and Comments and Replies]
Anthropological work in Guatemala is seen in terms of two traditions according to whether local or foreign researchers are involved. For exposition purposes and historical reasons, the little tradition is reviewed with reference to Sol Tax's work.
