It is not me, it's you
Institutional trust has decreased in Latin America over the past decade. Previous research has explained this crisis of institutional trust from a socio-political perspective, using variables such as satisfaction with public services, general attitudes, or sociodemographic characteristics. This study, however, analyzes the problem from the perspective of the incumbents themselves. We take the Chilean Congress as a case study, which has suffered o…

The Representation of Women in Chilean Advertising
This paper comparatively analyses the representation of women in Chilean print advertising in 1980 and 2013, years that represent the beginning and consolidation of a modernisation process, in which consumption became one of the main axes of social life and advertising, a major actor in the public space. Notwithstanding the far-reaching process of modernisation and the major transformations in Chilean society, advertisements in 2013 still depict …

Competing Frames and Melodrama
The tension between health and economic considerations regarding COVID-19 has resulted in a framing contest, in which proponents and adversaries of strong containment measures hold oppositional frames about the pandemic. This study examines the effects of competing news frames on social media users' policy preferences and the moderation of framing effects played by melodramatic news treatment. Results from a pre-registered online survey experimen…
Cultural and global perspectives to relationship management in international public relations
There is still debate on whether a global public relations model may be applied in any cultural setting. This article contributes to this discussion by presenting empirical evidence about how Chilean export firms develop public relations strategies to Chinese audiences and the dual dimension – global and cultural – of their practice. Two main findings are discussed: on the one hand, Chilean companies have mostly developed a global approach to rea…

International business and trust
There is academic consensus that trust facilitates economic cooperation since it helps to mobilize resources, acts as a mechanism to cope with uncertainty, diminishes transaction costs and reduces system complexity. In cross-cultural management, trust has been acknowledged as a facilitator of economic relations. Nevertheless, its nature, definition and sources are still debated from antagonistic and sometimes exclusive perspectives. Additionally,…
