  • Genetic Polymorphisms at three Loci in two Populations of Manipur, India

    Maishnam Rustam Singh, T Shyamacharan Singh•ARTICLE•Anthropologischer Anzeiger•2008

The Phayengs and Khurkhuls are sections of the Meiteis, the largest community in Manipur, India. Racially they are Mongoloids, and marry mostly among themselves. The present study reveals the frequencies of ABO blood groups as A1 (36.54%), B (28.85%), O (25.96%) and A1B (8.65%) in the Phayengs (n = 124) and A1 (39.84%), B (21.14%), O (22.76%) and A1B (16.26 %) in the Khurkhuls (n = 123). The subtype A2 is completely absent in both. The gene frequ…

  • Incidences of ABO and Rh(D) Incompatibilities among the Meiteis of Kwatha Village Manipur, India

    Open Access•K Renu Devi, T Shyamacharan Singh•ARTICLE•The Anthropologist•2008•Citada por: 1

Incidences of ABO and Rh (D) incompatibabilities of the couples has been investigated among the Meiteis of Kwatha village, Manipur in north –east India. Out of 42 couples, only 12 are found to be incompatible of the ABO system. It is noteworthy that none of the couples and their offsprings are found to be Rh (D) -ve. Prenatal death due to ABO incompatibility is higher among the incompatibles (5 %) than the compatibles (2 %). In terms of living ch…

  • Familial Correlations for Finger and Palmar Quantitative Dermatoglyphic Features Among the Khurkhul of Manipur

Open Access•N Dayabati Devi, Kh Sakhitombi Devi et al.•ARTICLE•The Anthropologist•2006•Referências: 2

The present study examines the heretability of finger and palmar quantitative dermatoglyphic traits bycalculating Karl Pearson’s coefficient of correlationship ‘r’ and regression equation between the actual parents andchildren and unrelated pairings. The sample is made up of 50 couples and their 135 children (66 sons and 69 daughters)belonging to the Khurkhul community of Manipur. The traits included in the study are: total finger ridge count, abs…

  • Nutritional Status of the Sekmai Children, Manipur

    Open Access•H Jibonkumar, T Shyamacharan Singh•ARTICLE•International Journal of…•2006

This paper reports on nutritional status of 4 to 10 year-old Sekmai children. The Sekmais belong to a section of the Meiteis of Manipur. They are included in the scheduled caste list of the state. The study is based on height and weight of 731 children, 360 boys 371 girls. It aims to throw light on different conventional methods of nutritional assessments based on height and weight and their varied results. The Sekmai children are shorter in heig…

  • Skinfold Thickness of The Meitei Boys of Manipur

Open Access•L Dibamani Singh, T Shyamacharan Singh et al.•ARTICLE•Journal of Human Ecology•2001•Referências: 2

Six skinfold measurements such as triceps, anterior thigh, medial calf, subscapular, suprailiac and umbilical were taken from 969 Meitei boys of 12 to 18 years of age. 488 of the boys belong to affluent families and 481 to non-affluent families. The affluent boys possess thicker skinfolds than their non-affluent counterparts in all the measurements and age groups. Peak adolescent growth spurt could not be seen for separate skinfolds in both the b…

  • Body Composition of the Meitei Boys of Manipur

Open Access•L Dibamani Singh, T Shyamacharan Singh et al.•ARTICLE•Journal of Human Ecology•1999•Referências: 4

The purpose of this paper is to study changes in body composition compartments of 969 Meitei boys ranging in age from 12 to 18 years 488 of the boys belong to affluent families and 481 to non-affluent families The affluent Meitei boys show greater fractional body masses, viz., fat mass, skeletal mass, muscle mass and residual mass than their non-affluent counterparts. Peak adolescent sport for all these fractional masses occur during 14 to 15 yea…

  • Variation in Gene Frequencies for Two Loci Among Assamese Tai

    M N Phookan, T Shyamacharan Singh•ARTICLE•Current Anthropology•1994

  • Stature and footsize in four Thai communities of Assam, India

T Shyamacharan Singh, Tanvi Singh et al.•ARTICLE•Anthropologischer Anzeiger•1993

An attempt has been made to examine correlationships between stature and footlength, stature and footbreadth, and footlength and breadth among four Thai (male) populations of Assam (India), viz. the Khamyangs, the Turungs, the Aitons and the Khamitis. Significant positive correlations have been found in all the cases. Mean values of the indices have revealed a more or less constant ratio of stature and footsize at all heights suggesting the possi…

  • A note on the frequency distribution of AB0 and Rhesus blood groups in four Thai populations of Assam (India) and their position among the Mongoloids of this region

    T Shyamacharan Singh, M N Phookan•ARTICLE•Anthropologischer Anzeiger•1990

An attempt has been made to give a picture of the distribution of AB0 and Rhesus blood groups in four Thai populations of Assam, India. Intragroup heterogeneity and their position among the Mongoloid populations of this region have also been examined. In all of these groups the frequency of the 0-allele was found to be the most predominant one followed by B- and A-alleles, respectively. A similar trend is observed in some other populations of Asi…
