  • Snapshots of past fish faunas

    Inge Bødker Enghoff, Vedat Edi̇ger•ARTICLE•Environmental Archaeology•2015•Referências: 5

Analyses of fish remains from sediment cores make it possible to detect not only commonly caught fish from prehistoric times, but also species without any economic importance, though of significance value of palaeoecological reconstructions. In this study, fish bones from sediment cores reaching as far back as several thousand years ago and taken in the Baltic and Black Seas were analysed. All fish remains examined postdate the last glaciations an…

  • Hunting, fishing and animal husbandry at The Farm Beneath The Sand, western Greenland

Inge Bødker Enghoff, Inger Bødker Enghoff•ARTICLE•Meddelelser om Grønland•2003

A large and generally well preserved sample of animal bones was excavated at "The Farm Beneath The Sand" (Gården under Sandet, GUS) in the Norse Western Settlement in Greenland. The sample represents the entire period of occupation, from ea. AD 1000-1400 and could be divided into three time phases, allowing analysis of changes in the economy of the farm. A total of 8,250 bone fragments, from at least 36 species of fish, birds and mammals, were id…

  • A Medieval herring industry in Denmark-The importance of herring in Eastern Denmark

  • Fishing in Denmark during the Ertebølle periodxs

    Open Access•Inge Bødker Enghoff•ARTICLE•International Journal of…•1994•Citada por: 11•Referências: 16

Fishing in Denmark during the Ertebølle period is discussed on the basis of almost 100000 identified fishbones from 14 coastal and two inland settlements. Forty-one fish species were identified from coastal materials, 15 from inland ones. The frequency distribution of total body length of the numerically most important fish species was estimated from bone measurements, using logarithmic regression equations. Otoliths were analysed in order to pro…
