  • Interactions between Fisheries and Tourism in the Nordic Countries

Open Access•Staffan Waldo, Margrethe Aanesen et al.•BOOK•Interactions between Fisheries…•2023

The Nordic countries all have large nature areas and clean waters attracting tourists from all over the world. Many visitors are attracted by fishing related activities, e.g. recreational fishing opportunities or coastal villages with a genuine fishing atmosphere provided by commercial fisheries. The role of fisheries for tourism is analysed in a study financed by the Nordic Council of Ministers. The study highlights that different tourists value…

  • Testing the sensitivity of stated environmental preferences to variations in choice architecture

    Open Access•Jülide Ceren Ahi, Margrethe Aanesen et al.•ARTICLE•Ecological Economics•2022•Citada por: 2•Referências: 5

We conducted a three-way split sample discrete choice experiment (DCE) to investigate welfare estimates for attributes related to the management of coastal cod stocks in Arctic Norway. In a base DCE design, respondents faced three core attributes: (1) coastal cod spawning biomass as an indicator of the sustainability of the cod stocks, (2) stricter regulations on primary user groups (commercial fishers, local recreational anglers, the marine fish…

  • Global ecological, social and economic impacts of marine plastic

Open Access•Nicola Beaumont, Nicola J Beaumont et al.•ARTICLE•Marine Pollution Bulletin•2019

This research takes a holistic approach to considering the consequences of marine plastic pollution. A semi-systematic literature review of 1191 data points provides the basis to determine the global ecological, social and economic impacts. An ecosystem impact analysis demonstrates that there is global evidence of impact with medium to high frequency on all subjects, with a medium to high degree of irreversibility. A novel translation of these ec…

  • Valuation of marine plastic pollution in the European Arctic

    Open Access•Tenaw G Abate, Tobias Börger et al.•ARTICLE•Ecological Economics•2019•Citada por: 4•Referências: 3

  • Demographic and economic disparities among Arctic regions

Jennifer I Schmidt, Margrethe Aanesen et al.•ARTICLE•Polar Geography•2015

We use demographic and economic indicators to analyze spatial differences and temporal\ntrends across 18 regions surrounding the Arctic Ocean. Multifactor and cluster analysis\nwere used on 10 indicators reflecting income, employment and demography from 1995\nto 2008. The main difference is between regions with high population densities, low\nnatural growth rate, and low unemployment (Russia, Norway and Iceland) and regions\nwith high unemploymen…

  • Willingness to pay for unfamiliar public goods

  • What does stakeholder involvement mean for fisheries management

    Open Access•Margrethe Aanesen, Claire W Armstrong et al.•ARTICLE•Conservation Ecology•2014•Citada por: 1

Aanesen, M., C. W. Armstrong, H. J. Bloomfield, and C. Röckmann. 2014. What does stakeholder involvement mean for fisheries management? Ecology and Society 19(4): 35. https://doi.org/10.5751/ES-06947-190435

  • Stakeholder Influence and Optimal Regulations

Margrethe Aanesen, Claire W Armstrong et al.•ARTICLE•Journal of Institutional and…•2013

One aspect of ecosystem-based management is to include new stakeholders. When an environmental NGO (ENGO) gets a say in the fisheries management, this will affect the authorities' optimal regulation. Combining a principal-agent model and a steady-state bioeconomic model, we show that under symmetric information the authorities will moderate their use of regulation as a response to the ENGO's increased influence. However, the aggregate of the auth…
