Although from the reign of Thutmose III our records of Egyptian campaigns in Asia are reasonably full, we lack extensive evidence on Egypt's activity in the Levant during the first four reigns of the 18th Dynasty. This paper attempts, with the aid of new instructions from the Amun Temple at Karnak, to fill this gap and also to dovetail our meagre Egyptian texts with the more extensive inscriptional evidence from Syria and Anatolia
