Recent years have witnessed a growing interest in the ‘borderscapes’ concept in border studies and cognate fields. However, there is a lack of dialogue amongst the proliferating case studies that have adopted the borderscapes concept. This paper contributes to discussion of the embodied border and demonstrates how the border becomes spatial through violence. It sheds light on the construction of spaces of violence in border zones in the context of the exploitation of the bodies of porteadoras (cross‐border workers in Melilla). By juxtaposing local narratives of border experiences in two volatile regions, the Spain–Morocco border in Melilla and the India–Bangladesh border in Assam, this paper argues for the value of understanding borders as infrastructures.
