On December 22, 2020, Morocco signed an agreement to normalize its relationships with Israel. The agreement gave new dynamics to the diplomatic relations between the two countries because they had in fact entertained cordial relations prior to the signing of this agreement. This article is a critical analysis of the process of religious reforms that the Moroccan monarchy has recently been engaged in. It looks at the different ways through which the Moroccan state has intended to ‘modernize’ religious discourse.
