  • Palaeolithic geography

    Derek Sturdy, D A Sturdy et al.•ARTICLE•World Archaeology•1988•Citada por: 7•Referências: 14

A method is offered by which maps of Palaeolithic geography can be drawn. The central objective is to look at palaeoecology but the difficulties — largely of imprecise numerical data — of this approach are accepted. Instead we urge archaeologists to remove their site blinkers; to consider not the areas around their sites but the area in which their sites occur; and not to place humans automatically at the centre of their landscapes. Initially we …

  • Palaeolithic Investigations at Klithi

    Open Access•G Bailey, G N Bailey et al.•ARTICLE•The Annual of the British School…•1986•Citada por: 7•Referências: 2

Field-work in 1984 and 1985 centred on the Klithi rockshelter has combined excavation and analysis of finds with palaeoenvironmental and palaeogeographical studies of the wider regional setting. Radiocarbon dates show that the deposits so far excavated extend from 10,000 BP to 17,000 BP. Excavations have concentrated on the uppermost levels (10,000 BP to 12,500 BP) immediately accessible below the surface, in order to develop methods for investig…

  • Causewayed Camps and Early Neolithic Economies in Central Southern England

    Open Access•G Barker, Derrick Webley•ARTICLE•Proceedings of the Prehistoric…•1978•Citada por: 4•Referências: 23

This paper is a study of the location of several causewayed camps in central southern England. We first discuss their contemporary environment, the cultivation technology of the early neolithic farmers, and the implications of this technology for land use. We conclude from soil studies that all except one of the sites examined were in pastoral situations, although the seasonality of the pasture varied between the sites. On the basis of the locati…

  • A Classical Landscape in Molise

Open Access•G Barker, John Lloyd et al.•ARTICLE•Papers of the British School at…•1978•Citada por: 7•Referências: 5

  • Further Information Concerning the Environment of Palaeolithic Man in Epirus

    Open Access•Eric Higgs, E S Higgs et al.•ARTICLE•Proceedings of the Prehistoric…•1971•Citada por: 2•Referências: 1

The purpose of this article is to bring together further information from Epirus which is relevant to the consideration of man's environment in Palaeolithic times in Greece. Some aspects of this study have already been published elsewhere (Dakaris et al. , 1964; Higgs and Vita-Finzi, 1966; Higgs et al. , 1968) and it is sufficient here to give only a brief summary of earlier conclusions. It has been thought that there are good grounds for believi…
