  • The Virtual Palaeosciences (ViPs) project

    Open Access•Simon M Hutchinson, Karen L Bacon et al.•ARTICLE•Journal of Geography in Higher…•2022•Citada por: 1•Referências: 1

The Virtual Palaeosciences (ViPs) project is a collaborative initiative bringing palaeoscientists together to locate, access and share online educational resources (OERs). It began as a response to the 2020 shift to online learning when the COVID-19 pandemic curtailed field and lab work. We outline the development and initial outcomes of the project and consider future directions post-pandemic. Our initial focus was to create a searchable list of…

  • Could a potential Anthropocene mass extinction define a new geological period

    Open Access•Karen L Bacon, Graeme T Swindles•ARTICLE•The Anthropocene Review•2016•Citada por: 3•Referências: 77

A key aspect of the current debate about the Anthropocene focuses on defining a new geological epoch. Features of the Anthropocene include a biodiversity crisis with the potential to reach 'mass extinction' status alongside increasing global CO2 and temperature. Previous geological boundaries associated with mass extinctions, rises in atmospheric CO2 and rises in global temperature are more usually associated with transitions between geological p…
