On [V] on v
Based on the expression of temporality in the nominal domain and its syntactic representation via the functional projections of Nominal Tense and Nominal Aspect, this article argues against the proposal that an extending-into-time perspective distinguishes the categorial feature [V] on little v from [N] on little n at LF. It demonstrates that supralexical causation, instead of temporality, is the necessary interpretive perspective encoded in [V] …

Tense and modality in the nominal domain
It is well discussed in the literature that epistemic modals (Mod epis) are base-generated higher than Tense (T), while non-epistemic/root modals (Mod root) are base-generated lower than T, and that high modals are evaluated in the context of the speech event (i.e., with regard to the speaker at the speech time), whereas low modals are evaluated in the context of the VP event (with regard to an argument at the event time). In this study, looking …

Translation Metamorphosis
Taking a process-oriented approach, the present paper employs two of the principal theories of the semantics of proper names, the description theory and the causal theory, in order to arrive at 'identifying function', the element responsible for retaining the effects of the original proper names into the target text. A continuum with two extremes of 'identifying-function-reduced' and 'identifying-function-embedded' translations is then proposed f…
Translation bootstrapping
One of the founding issues in translatology is shift analysis, already enriched with valuable product-oriented approaches. The present paper borrows the concept of bootstrapping from the field of bilingualism and applies it to a process-oriented analysis of translation shifts; so as to reach ‘translation bootstrapping’, a continuum with two extremes of function-reduced and function-embedded translations has been drawn making use of language funct…
