  • Chronemic urgency in everyday digital communication

    Open Access•Yoram M Kalman, Dawna I Ballard et al.•ARTICLE•Time & Society•2021•Citada por: 4•Referências: 40

The experience of a lack of time due to an increasing burden of urgent tasks is one of the more common challenges created by digital communication media in the network society. This study develops the concept of chronemic urgency to explore urgent messaging using digital media. Chronemic urgency is the urgency users assign to messages received via a specific communication medium. Consistent with a communication perspective, the urgency is a funct…

  • What are the barriers to learners’ satisfaction in Moocs and what predicts them? The role of age, intention, self-regulation, self-efficacy and motivation

Massive open online course (MOOC) participants face diverse barriers that prevent them from feeling satisfied with participating in online courses. This study identified those barriers and their predictors. Using pre- and post-questionnaires, MOOC participants reported several characteristics and their barriers to satisfaction during the course. Open Access•Yoram M Kalman, Gilad Ravid et al.•ARTICLE•Journal of Computer-Mediated…•2006•Citada por: 7•Referências: 7

This study examines the chronemics of response latencies in asynchronous computer-mediated communication (CMC) by analyzing three datasets comprising a total of more than 150,000 responses: email responses created by corporate employees, responses created by university students in course discussion groups, and responses to questions posted in a public, commercial online information market. Mathematical analysis of response latencies reveals a nor…
