The Rediscovery of the Necropolis of the Ancient Dumah / Dumata (Dūmat al‐Jandal, Saudi Arabia)
The ongoing archaeological research in the North‐Arabian oasis of Dūmat al‐Jandal revealed an unbroken chronological sequence stretching from the eighth century BCE to the 19th century, based on evidence related to the urban settlement, with occupational peaks during the ‘Assyrian’ phase (eighth–seventh century BCE ), the Nabataean phase (first century BCE second century CE ) and the late Roman to Byzantine phase (third–seventh century). A Late Iron Age settlement in Wādī Banī Ḫālid
This paper introduces the first results of the joint Omani‐Italian archaeological project at Wādī Banī Ḫālid (northern Šarqiyyah governorate, eastern al‐Ḥaǧar), where a dense Iron Age and ancient Islamic occupation was detected. Architectural decorations from the private buildings in the Market Square at Tamn
The architectural decorations in pre‐Islamic Yemen feature a wide and heterogeneous range of materials. Their many functions cover different fields: domestic, religious, funeral architecture, grave goods (particularly censers and furnishings) and, last but not least, epigraphs. Thus the study of this class of materials requires a two‐fold approach: on the one hand to identify and understand the various ornamental motifs in themselves; on the othe…
