Humorens tvetydige funksjon
Awkward ethnography
PurposeThis article explores the analytical gains of what we refer to as "awkward ethnography." How might our understanding of organizational phenomena benefit from those unexpected moments when our observations are laughed at, when our questions cause discomfort, or when we feel like a failure? While such instances seem to be an inherent aspect of organizational ethnography, they are often silenced or camouflaged by claims of intentionality. Thi…
Gender, War, and the Military - On the Complexities, Conceptualizations, and Lived Realities of Militarized Sociality
Does Khaki Become You? The Militarisation of Women's Lives. As Enloe (1983) argues, the military is central to the social order more generally and for the perpetuation of patriarchy in Western democracies, which makes the study of the military the task of any feminist. In her argument, the continuous extension of the military and its values into all areas of everyday life, something that Enloe (1993) and other feminists identify as militarization…
Den uintenderede kønskrontol
The unintended gender controlThrough a reconstellation of Judith Butlers ‘heterosexual matrix', this article explores how subtle everyday events in the Danish society work as (unintended) gender policing which participates in constituting transgendered citizens as non-human. This is done by regular comparisons of the citizen's registered ‘biological sex' with the citizen's apparent, ‘visible gender' e.g. in airports or at the doctor's office wher…
Køn som infrastruktur
Gender as infrastructure. Based on the theoretical conception of ‘infrastructure' the article explores how gender can be understood in the context of the Danish information infrastructure CPR, which registers all Danish citizens. Specific to this information system is that it produces gender specific ID-numbers for citizens, which are then used to structure the Danish welfare system. Installed in this omnipotent system, the gender categories crea…
