Kin Keeping and Family Storytelling in Nineteenth-century French-Canadian Immigrant Letters
This article analyses a new archive of French-Canadian immigrant letters through the combined, trifocal lens of kin keeping and family narrative, immigrant letters, and family correspondence. Letters are the ideal access point to both the historical construction of family identity through storytelling and the kin-keeping practices that sustain it. They cite experience in “demonstration projects.” Such experience—in carefully implemented and monitored, and (presumably) well-financed projects—cannot be taken as an indication of performance in large, routine programs. Second-hand smoke exposure and household smoking bans in Chinese families
As workplace smoking restrictions spread, smoking in the home is becoming the predominant source of exposure to second-hand smoke (SHS) among children and other non-smokers in the household. This study explored issues around children's exposure to SHS. Focus group discussions (FGDs) and in-depth interviews (IDI) were conducted among 31 Chinese households in urban Shanghai, China. The wide publicity related to human papillomavirus (HPV) vaccines has led to a sense that HPV vaccine programs are inevitable in both developed and developing countries, whereas 2 existing methods of screening—visual inspection with ascetic acid (VIA) and DNA testing—have received much less attention.
