Crises of Empire
Crises of Empire offers a comprehensive and uniquely comparative analysis of the history of decolonization in the British, French and Dutch empires. By comparing the processes of decolonization across three of the major modern empires, from the aftermath of the First World War to the late 20th century, the authors are able to analyse decolonization as a long-term process. They explore significant changes to the international system, shifting popu…
InterRett—The application of bioinformatics to International Rett syndrome research
InterRett, International Rett Syndrome Association (IRSA) Rett Phenotype Database, is a unique international project funded by the IRSA, which brings together child neurologists, geneticists, paediatricians, epidemiologists, researchers and families of affected children. The principal aim of InterRett is to increase the clinical understanding of Rett syndrome throughout the world and with the statistical power of large case numbers, determine any…
Application of satellite images for monitoring snow-line in the Yukon and Northwest Territories
Each year, more and more of Canada's vast northern territories are being explored in the search for untapped mineral resources. But the area is covered with snow for seven to ten months a year, which hampers most activities connected with mineral exploration. Snow cover also affects changes in albedo and temperature and hydrologic forecasting. The surface hydrology in most areas is only active for two to five months a year. Historically, snow hyd…
The Use of Satellite Imagery for Monitoring Ice Break-up along the Mackenzie River, N.W.T
The usefulness of satellite imagery for providing comprehensive information concerning break-up of river ice is discussed. For the years 1975-77, dates of break-up along the Mackenzie River derived from satellite images correlated well with the dates noted at six ground stations in the valley. It is suggested that satellite imagery could also be used to study ice break-up along rivers where little or no hydrometeorological data are regularly coll…
Reproductions of an Ancient Babylonian Glaze
To all who are interested in archaeology the discovery of an ancient writing or of a hitherto undiscovered ancient material must, in itself, be an event of major interest. The study of the writing, coupled with the pleasurable anticipation, not unmixed with hope, that it will present something new in the history of mankind is, however, an adventure to be enjoyed by only the select few who are learned in these matters. Similarly, the study of a pr…
