Depot medroxyprogesterone acetate (DMPA) was approved as an investigational new drug for contraceptive use in the United States between 1967 and 1978. This retrospective survey of 802 noninstitutionalized adults reveals that abusive punishment in single-parent households is twice that of two-parent families. The effect that lactation might have on intrauterine device (IUD) performance was investigated by using data from a series of multicenter clinical trials. Life-table methods were applied to compare breastfeeding and non-breastfeeding women with respect to IUD expulsion, accidental pregnancy, IUD removal for various reasons, and overall continuation of IUD use. Access to Postpartum Sterilization in Southeast Brazil
All women hospitalized for delivery over a ten-week period at the largest maternity hospital in Campinas in the State of São Paulo, Brazil, were questioned about their interest in and plans for sterilization. Results from a categorical data analysis indicate that among the study variables, cesarean delivery was the necessary condition for postpartum sterilization and was significantly associated with the patient's ability to pay for services.
