Respondents experienced in a given leisure activity were asked to indicate the extent to which it met different psychological needs, as measured by the Paragraphs About Leisure (PAL) questionnaire. This study investigated the stability of REP items measuring the likelihood and importance of possible psychological outcomes of a recreational experience across the time and location of measurement and the instructional set used with the items. Discriminant Validity of the Paragraphs about Leisure for Expert and Naive Respondents
The Paragraphs About Leisure (PAL) was administered to a sample of stamp collectors ( N = 51) and a sample of undergraduate students naive about stamp collecting ( N = 30). One-way ANO-VAs were performed to compare the group means on the 44 scales of the PAL. The results provide support for the discriminant validity of the PAL

Two procedures for scoring the Recreation Experience Preference scales were investigated from using data obtained from respondents engaged in outdoor recreational activities in Pennsylvania (N = 463) and Michigan (N = 1531).
