While male suicide-loss survivors (SLSs) are equally exposed, the vast majority of suicide bereavement research includes a large majority of female participants. Methods: Following the eMERGe and PRISMA guidelines, a meta-ethnography (systematic …

  • A Journey through Reproductive Loss and Autoethnography

    Caroline Lafarge, K Douglas•ARTICLE•Journal of Autoethnography•2025

Over the many years I (Caroline) have taught reproductive health and conducted research in the area of perinatal loss, I have written and spoken about the strength, courage, and spirit many women/couples display when facing such experiences. But I have also become increasingly aware that I would have to, at some point, revisit my own experience of perinatal loss and understand how it fits within the research I have conducted, the individuals I ha…

  • Exploring the experiences of ethnic minority postgraduate researchers in the UK

Siobhan Lynam, Caroline Lafarge et al.•ARTICLE•Educational Review•2024

Racism and inequity remain widespread in Higher Education Institutions (HEIs), hindering ethnic minority (EM) postgraduate researchers’ (PGRs) prospects. A deeper understanding of the experience of EM PGRs and the obstacles they face is needed. This study endeavoured to explore the plurality of EM PGRs’ experiences and generate PGR-led recommendations. As a largely White research team, we also saw the study as a transformative opportunity for our…

Analysis produced superordinate themes of: S…

  • The role of rumination in adjusting to termination of pregnancy for fetal abnormality

Caroline Lafarge, Lee Usher et al.•ARTICLE•Psychological Trauma Theory…•2019

The results confirm the applicability of the PTG model to TFA and support the relevance of rumination to the PTG experience. The results also have clinical implications. Given the positive relationship between deliberate rumination and PTG, promoting interventions that encourage reflective thinking and narrative construction would benefit women post-TFA, particularly those experiencing high levels of distress and/or at risk of complicated grief. …

Due to technological advances in antenatal diagnosis of fetal abnormalities, more women face the prospect of terminating pregnancies on these grounds. Much existing research focuses on women's psychological adaptation to this event. However, there is a lack of holistic understanding of women's experiences.
