Pohřebiště starší doby bronzové v Plotištích nad Labem a jejich význam v rámci osídlení regionu
Pohřební aktivity ze starší doby bronzové (přibližně 2200–1700/1650 př. Kr.) byly v Plotištích nad Labem (okr.
Two Migration Period Graves from Slatiňany, Chrudim District
In 2019, during archaeological rescue excavations preceding the construction of the Slatiňany bypass, two inhumation graves dating back to the 5th century AD (stages D2 and D3 of the Migration Period) were discovered. The aim of the paper is to present the results of comprehensive interdisciplinary cooperation (anthropology, archaeozoology, metallography, genetics, textile studies, and chemical, elemental, and isotope analyses). The study focuses…
Wagon or no Wagon
Grave mound 2 in Sankt Helena, community of Simmelsdorf, has provided insights into Early Iron Age burial practices. Due to the preservation of small organic material attached to bronze and iron artefacts, mound 2 quickly became one of the focal points of our research project (No 57601170). In addition, several wagon- and horse-gear-related objects were discovered in this burial mound, which led us to the question of whether a wagon was placed in…

Where is the waste? The microlevel interdisciplinary study of kitchen waste distribution in Castle Rokštejn, Czech Republic
Terénnímu odkryvu předcházelo využití nedestruktivních metod, a to především pravidelných povrchových prospekc…

A pathological lesion or a postmortem artefact? An interdisciplinary approach to deal with an interesting early medieval case
Combined archaeobotanical and linguistic evidence does not support the early domestication of Brassica rapa varieties
Evaluation of chemical composition of cribra orbitalia from post-medieval children graves (Olomouc, Czech Republic)
During an archaeological rescue excavation in center of city Olomouc (Moravia region, Czech Republic) several graves were found. Those graves were a part of a defunct cemetery situated in the area surrounding a church of St. Peter and Paul. The research was focused on analysis of 13 children’s skull samples affected by a chronical pathology known as “ cribra orbitalia ” (CO). X-ray fluorescence spectrometry (XRF) and inductively coupled plasma-ma…
First evidence of the production of Ginalski E5 button spurs from copper alloy in Central Europe
Ginalski‐type E5 button spurs made from a Cu alloy are a characteristic attribute of the Middle Roman period in barbarian Europe. The find of part of a mould made of non‐ferrous metal at the Luleč site in the district of Vyškov, Czech Republic, provided key evidence for explaining the issue of their production. The discovery of this unique artefact showed that based on current knowledge, the spurs made from a Cu alloy were also produced in the Mi…
Five Years of Advanced Archaeometric Analysis at the Department of Analytical Chemistry, Faculty of Science, Palacký University in Olomouc
In modern archaeological research, a close multidisciplinary collaboration with other scientific areas is necessary, especially with natural sciences (e.g., anthropology, archaeobotany, and chemistry). This kind of collaboration and mutual evaluation of obtained results provides synergistically a series of important information in the context of prehistoric research nowadays. This systematic cooperation among archaeology, heritage science, anthro…
The oldest millet herbal beer in the Europe? The ninth century BCE bronze luxury bucket from Kladina, Czech Republic
In 2017, a luxury bronze bucket was discovered near Kladina village in the Czech Republic. The bucket is dated to the ninth century BCE, and it is a unique artefact, having no parallel in Europe. Stylistically, it is a “transition type” dated between the Late Bronze Age (11 th –10 th century BCE) and the Hallstatt Period (eighth–sixth century BCE). Detailed palynological analysis of verdigris and soil infill of the bucket identified a wide range …

Determination of the Fineness of Medieval Coins—Evaluation of Methods in a Case Study of a Medieval Pfennig
The original fineness of coins is very important information that can help us to understand the commercial situation in a wide historical context. This paper deals with a comparison of analytical methods suitable for the evaluation of the actual and original fineness of coins based on a detailed case study of a medieval coin sample. Both non‐destructive (i.e., scanning electron microscopy/energy‐dispersive X‐ray spectroscopy, X‐ray fluorescence, …
A Dynamics of Inventories and Its Synchronization with a Cycle of Savings and Import in the Czech Republic in 1999-2012
The article deals with a problem of changes in inventories, its variability and its synchronization with changing savings and import in the Czech Republic in 1999-2012. In theoretical part both macroeconomic and microeconomic aspects of changes in inventories are discussed in the context of expected and unexpected demand shocks. In empirical part sources of GDP variability are analyzed using trend and cyclical data. Trend variability of changes i…
