  • Further consideration of the curvature of the Neandertal Femur

Open Access•Tara Chapman, Victor Sholukha et al.•ARTICLE•American Journal of Physical…•2018•Referências: 54

OBJECTIVES: Neandertal femora are particularly known for having a marked sagittal femoral curvature. This study examined femoral curvature in Neandertals in comparison to a modern human population from Belgium by the use of three-dimensional (3D) quadric surfaces modeled from the bone surface. 3D models provide detailed information and enabled femoral curvature to be analyzed in conjunction with other morphological parameters. MATERIALS AND METHO…

  • New data on the late Neandertals

Open Access•Patrick Semal, Hélène Rougier et al.•ARTICLE•American Journal of Physical…•2009•Citada por: 105•Referências: 19

In Eurasia, the period between 40,000 and 30,000 BP saw the replacement of Neandertals by anatomically modern humans (AMH) during and after the Middle to Upper Paleolithic transition. The human fossil record for this period is very poorly defined with no overlap between Neandertals and AMH on the basis of direct dates. Four new 14 C dates were obtained on the two adult Neandertals from Spy (Belgium). The results show that Neandertals survived to …

This work resumes and actualises the biometric study of Twiesselmannn (1990) on the comparison between the measurements performed on the Ishango fossils and those reported from other fossils and from two modern reference populations. The studied material is composed of a piece of mandible with M2 (Ishango A), of an isolated M1, and of two almost complete mandibles (Ishango a et D). The reference material comprises measurements of australopithecin…
