The aim of this article is to analyze the agricultural transformations that occurred in Mato Grosso, particularly in the period that spans from 1940 to 2006. A literature review and an analysis of the agricultural census statistics available between the dates indicated show the effects that a wide range of public policies had in rural areas of Mato Grosso.
