There is an abundance of research on the motherhood wage penalty, but few studies have looked at stepmotherhood and its association with women's work hours, labor market experience, and wages. Gender, Spousal Caregiving, and Depression
Studies have shown that spousal caregiving leads to psychological distress, but few have analyzed the moderating effect of paid work. Using the 2000 to 2012 Health and Retirement Study and two-stage least squares regression models, this study found that caregiving increased women's and men's depressive symptoms. Ordinary least squares models showed that caregiving had more adverse effects on women's mental health than on men's, but these differen…
A Multi-institutional Study of Students’ Perceptions and Experiences in the Research-based Capstone Course in Sociology
In this article, we describe student perceptions of, and experiences in, a one-semester, required sociology research capstone course. The data come from 106 students in eight sections of the course taught at three institutions. We used multiple methods for data collection: questionnaires, focus groups, and learning reflection essays.
