Factors associated with early biological aging in older people with HIV
Advances and availability of antiretroviral treatment has enabled a longer life expectancy for HIV population. However, with its chronicity, premature aging challenges the management of people living with HIV. This study, conducted between 2018–2020, aimed to identify an association between risk factors and premature aging, using the biological age estimated by artificial intelligence (AI) based on deep learning (Aging 3.0). This was a cross-sect…
HIV-1 incidence among people seeking voluntary counseling and testing centers, including pregnant women, in Pernambuco State, Northeast Brazil
The HIV-1 epidemic in Brazil has displayed new characteristics over time, with an increase in heterosexual transmission and a decline in the male-to-female ratio in AIDS cases. HIV screening was offered to patients attending the Voluntary Counseling and Testing Center in Paulista, Greater Metropolitan Recife, Pernambuco State, in Northeast Brazil, to determine HIV-1 incidence. BED capture enzyme immunoassay (BED-CEIA) was used to measure HIV-1 in…
Factors associated with treatment for latent tuberculosis in persons living with HIV/Aids
The aim was to identify factors associated with non-initiation of prophylactic treatment of latent tuberculosis infection (LTBi) in persons living with HIV/AIDS (PLWA), based on a prospective cohort study of PLWA ≥ 18 years of age in two referral services for HIV/AIDS. Of the 232 patients eligible for treatment of LTBi, 69.8% initiated treatment. Following multivariate logistic regression analysis, only treatment in one of the two referral servic…
Empirical treatment for TB in HIV
Higher mortality in PLHIV reporting a current cough without bacteriological confirmation of tuberculosis was identified for those with a CD4 cell count <200, abnormal chest X-ray, anemia and empirical treatment for tuberculosis. Mortality was not significantly higher in those empirically treated for TB, who had three characteristics suggestive of the disease (abnormal chest X-ray, history of TB treatment, AFB sputum smear or M.tb culture testing)…
Predictive factors for repetition of the tuberculin test after a nonreactive test in patients with HIV/Aids
This study encountered a very low TST repetition rate after 1 year of follow-up and identified groups of individuals who should be the target of interventions aimed at repeating the TST
P2-495 Predictive factors for non-repetition of the tuberculin test in patients with HIV/Aids
Introduction Periodic repetition of the tuberculin skin (TST) test in individuals with HIV/AIDS with an initially non-reactive test should be carried out to identify those who should be treated for latent tuberculosis as recommended by the Brazilian Ministry of Health. Methods A cohort of HIV positive patients who had initially tested non-reactive to the TST were followed up for the period between November 2007 and February 2010. The Kaplan–Meier…
P2-355 Factors associated with overweight and obesity in individuals with HIV/Aids
Introduction The nutritional profile of HIV-infected patients after the introduction of HAART has pointed to high rates of overweight and obesity that have been associated with the emergence of long term co-morbidities, including metabolic changes. Methods A cross-sectional nested case control study was conducted to estimate the prevalence of thinness and overweight/obesity and associated factors in 2018 individuals with HIV/AIDS, using the Body …
Risk factors for healthcare-associated infection in pediatric intensive care units
A systematic review of observational studies on risk factors for healthcare-associated infection in pediatric Intensive Care Units (ICU) was carried out. Studies indexed in MEDLINE, LILACS, Cochrane, BDENF, CAPES databases published in English, French, Spanish or Portuguese between 1987 and 2006 were included and cross references added. Key words for search were "cross infection" and "Pediatric Intensive Care Units" with others sub-terms included…
