  • Age at Menarche in Three Caste Populations of Andhra Pradesh

    Open Access•N Lakshmi, T Venkateswara Rao et al.•ARTICLE•The Anthropologist•2006

In the present paper menarcheal age in three endogamous Vysya populations, Arya Vysya, Thrivarnika and Kalinga Vysya is reported. It has been observed that there is a decrease in mean menarcheal age with moving down in social hierarchy. Further, among the three population groups of Andhra Pradesh which have been studied at different times, decrease in mean menarcheal age has been found which show a secular trend

  • Population structure and genetic differentiation among the substructured Vysya caste population in comparison to the other populations of Andhra Pradesh, India

Open Access•N Lakshmi, Darío Alfredo Demarchi et al.•ARTICLE•Annals of Human Biology•2002

Different approaches employed in this study give support to the hypothesis of different origin and/or demographic story for the three Vysya groups compared with other populations of Andhra Pradesh

  • Haptoglobin and Caeruloplasmin Types in Five Tribal Populations of Andhra Pradesh

    Open Access•P Veerraju, T Venkateswara Rao et al.•ARTICLE•The Anthropologist•2002

Haptoglobin and Caeruloplasmin protein systems have been determined in five tribal populations namely, Konda Reddi, Koya Dora, Konda Kammara, Chenchu and Lambada. The results were also compared with those available from other Andhra Pradesh populations

  • Blood Groups in Two Tribal Populations of Andhra Pradesh

Open Access•Reshmi, Shalini C Reshmi et al.•ARTICLE•Journal of Human Ecology•2002

Phenotype and allele frequencies for ABO and Rh(D) blood groups in two tribal populations, namely, the Lambadas and the Chenchus, from Andhra Pradesh are reported here

  • A Study of Finger Dermatoglyphics Among Chenehu and Lambadi Females of Andhra Pradesh, India

    Open Access•N Lakshmi, P Veerraju•ARTICLE•The Anthropologist•2000

Finger dermatoglyphics of 50 Chenchu females and 50 Lambadi females of Andhra Pradesh, India, are reported. Interestingly, whorls are more in Lambadis when compared to Chenchus. Lambadis show accidentals and have more ridges than Chenchus. These results have been compared with those of earlier data

  • PTC Taste Sensitivity and Red Green Colourblindness in Three Endogamous Populations of Andhra Pradesh

    Open Access•N Lakshmi, P Veerraju et al.•ARTICLE•The Anthropologist•2000

The ability to taste Phenylthiocarbamide (PTC) and the incidence of colourblindness were investigated in three endogamous caste population namely Arya Vysya, Kalinga Vysya and Thrivamika of Visak hapatnam, Vizianagaram and Srikakulam districts of Coastal Andhra Pradesh. The non-taster allele ‘t’is lower in Kalinga Vysya compared to the other two populations. The percentage frequency of red green colourblindnes in males is in the decreasing order …

  • Absence of A Blood Group in an Endogamous Population of Andhra Pradesh

    Open Access•N Lakshmi, P Veerraju et al.•ARTICLE•The Anthropologist•2000

Complete absence of A blood group was observed in Thrivarnikas, an endogamous population. This may be due to founder effect followed by drift

  • Colourblindness and Taste Sensitivity to Phenylthiocarbarnide in Vadabalijas

Open Access•N Lakshmi, K Santhi Devi et al.•ARTICLE•Journal of Human Ecology•2000

"Colourblindness and Taste Sensitivity to Phenylthiocarbarnide in Vadabalijas." Journal of Human Ecology, 11(6), pp. 491–492

  • Taste Sensitivity to Phenylthiocarbamide and Colourblindness in Chettibalijas of Andhra Pradesh, South India

Open Access•K Santhi Devi, N Lakshmi et al.•ARTICLE•Journal of Human Ecology•1995

The ability to taste phenylthiocarbamide (PTC) and the incidence of colourblindness was investigated in 155 individuals belonging to chettibalijas caste population of Visakhapatnam city. Andhra Pradesh. South India The incidence of non-users in males was 52.6 per cent and in females 27.8 percent. The frequency of non-tasters for both sexes combined was 40 percent. Regarding colourblindness, four individuals were round to be of strong deutan type …

  • Circulating Immunoglobulin Levels in Pulmonary Tuberculosis Patients

Open Access•N Lakshmi, P Veerraju et al.•ARTICLE•Journal of Human Ecology•1993

Serum immunoglobulin ((3, A and M) levels were quantitatively determined in Indian patients with pulmonary tuberculosis. They were Compared with those of controls. Mean levels of Ig O and Ig A were significantly raised in patients; On comparing the serum immunoglobulin values amongst the subgroups of pulmonary tuberculosis it was observed that Ig G level increased with severity of disease. No bisexual variation was observed with regard to Ig leve…
