Examining cross-sectional associations between Australian parents’ physical activity levels and their parenting confidence
Self-reported physical activity was most robustly associated with physical activity-specific parenting confidence for mothers. A similar pattern was observed for fathers but the smaller sample size widened confidence intervals. Mothers' perceptions of their physical activity may be an important consideration for future research. Understanding these associations may help to support parents in achieving optimal health outcomes for both themselves a…
Feasibility, acceptability, and preliminary impact of “Supper Heroes”, a family-based sustainable diet intervention
The primary objective of this research was to evaluate the feasibility and acceptability of "Supper Heroes", a superhero-themed mobile health (mHealth) intervention designed to reduce food waste and increase plant-based protein food intake among families with children aged 9-14 in Ontario, Canada. A single arm, pre-post mixed methods design was used to evaluate the intervention. The 4-month mHealth intervention included 7 online modules with info…

Priority populations’ experiences of the accessibility and inclusion of recreation centres
The present study adds to essential knowledge concerning priority populations' experiences of recreation centres. For recreation facilities that were generally perceived as having positive inclusion and accessibility, the findings nonetheless highlighted suggestions for further enhancement. These strategies may be useful more broadly for improving accessibility and inclusion, thereby promoting physical activity and ultimately health for all
Are physical activity and sleep associated with emotional self-regulation in toddlers? a cross-sectional study
This cross-sectional study suggests that sleep may be important for emotional self-regulation in toddlers, but the role of physical activity remains unclear. These findings suggest that interventions targeting sleep duration and sleep behaviours during the early toddler years may benefit the positive development of emotional self-regulation skills in this population

Mapping intervention components from a randomized controlled trial to scale-up of an early life nutrition and movement intervention
Introduction: Early life parent-focused interventions can effectively improve infant and child nutrition and movement (physical activity and sedentary behavior) as well as parents' health behaviors. Scale-up of such interventions to real-world settings is essential for population-wide benefits. When progressing to scale-up, intervention components may be modified to reflect contextual factors and promote feasibility of scale-up. The INFANT progra…

The objectives of this article were (1) to summarize the findings from the Global Matrix 4.0 Report Cards, (2) to compare indicators across countries, and (3) to explore trends related to t…
A thematic cluster analysis of parents' online discussions about fussy eating
Food fussiness is associated with non-responsive parent feeding practices, such as persuasive and instrumental feeding. Although most children described as 'fussy eaters' are likely exhibiting developmentally typical behaviours, up to half of the parents of children 2-5 years old express concerns. Concern for fussy eating may mediate the use of non-responsive feeding practices and so must be addressed in parent feeding interventions. Therefore, i…
Mothers as advocates for healthier lifestyle behaviour environments for their children
As children are continuously being exposed to obesogenic environments future quantitative and qualitative studies are needed to describe how to promote parental advocacy and engagement, in order to provide children with environments that support healthy lifestyle behaviours
How to Change Young Children’s Physical Activity and Sedentary Behavior
In the very early childhood period, as mothers are commencing their parenting journey, improving their behavioral knowledge appears to be the biggest contributor to reducing child television viewing, constituting a relatively simple strategy that could be implemented across clinical and public health settings. In contrast, it remains unclear what mechanisms may increase physical activity levels in this age group
Associations between Child and Family Level Correlates and Behavioural Patterns in School-Aged Children
Identifying correlates of behavioural patterns are important to target population sub-groups at increased health risk. The aim was to investigate correlates of behavioural patterns comprising four behavioural domains in children. Data were from the HAPPY study when children were 6-8 years (n = 335) and 9-11 years (n = 339). Parents reported correlate and behavioural data (dietary intake, physical activity, sedentary behaviour, and sleep). Behavio…
How to Support Child Healthcare Nurses in Sweden to Promote Healthy Lifestyle Behaviors from the Start of Life
Child healthcare (CHC) nurses have a key role in promoting and supporting healthy lifestyle behaviors from a young age. Thus, this study aims to investigate the perspectives of CHC nurses regarding discussing food introduction, physical activity/active play, and screen time with parents; explore facilitators and barriers influencing the discussion of healthy lifestyle behaviors with parents; and explore the perspectives of CHC nurses regarding a …
What Factors Help Young Children Develop Positive Perceptions of Their Motor Skills
A positive perception of motor skills is important for physical activity participation. The aim was to investigate which modifiable factors predict children's perceived motor skills. Mothers completed questionnaires when their child was 3.5 and 5 years old. At 5 years old, the children's perceived motor competence (PMC) was assessed. Separate linear regression models (up to 300 children) examined which factors at each time point predicted childre…

Examining the Features of Parks That Children Visit During Three Stages of Childhood
Parks provide an opportunity for children to be physically active, but are rarely fully utilised. A better understanding of which park features attract children of varying ages is needed. This study examined which features are present at parks that children visit most often at different stages throughout childhood. Parents reported the park their child visited most often at three timepoints: T1 = 3-5 years, T2 = 6-8 years, and T3 = 9-11 years. Th…
Key Messages in an Early Childhood Obesity Prevention Intervention
Knowledge of the impact of health messages as an intervention strategy is sparse. The aim of this study was to explore recall and use of health behaviour messages among mothers, and whether recall is associated with child health behaviours. Intervention group data from the 15 months Melbourne Infant Feeding, Activity and Nutrition Trial (InFANT) were used ( n = 127, children 4 months at commencement). Mothers recalled (unprompted then prompted) a…
Physical activity and sedentary behavior across three time-points and associations with social skills in early childhood
Screen time was unfavorably associated with social skills across early childhood. Furthermore, all behaviors tracked at moderate to moderate-high levels from toddler to preschool ages. Therefore, promoting healthy physical activity and sedentary behavior patterns early in life, especially for screen time, may be important

The Backbone of Night
Developmental tendencies in the work of Henri Dutilleux have been described variously as reverse variation, constant renewal or gradual motivic development. The term ‘progressive growth’ is often cited to describe the composer's process, particularly in his string quartet Ainsi la nuit (1973–1976); but gradual motivic or harmonic development cannot explain the subtleties and larger inter-connective networks inherent in progressive growth, a conce…

Oral Presentations
Attention to infant feeding issues is often a missing component of a general emergency/disaster response but where there is a lack of water or contaminated water and a fragile or nonexistent power supply to a population, infants who are not being breastfed face serious health risks. The World Health Assembly (WHA), in a 2010 resolution, recognised that national emergency preparedness plans and international Interpreting non-verbal cues: skin to s…
Association between maternal education and diet of children at 9 months is partially explained by mothers' diet
Infants of mothers of low educational background display consistently poorer outcomes, including suboptimal weaning diets. Less is known about the different causal pathways that relate maternal education to infants' diet. The present study aimed to test the hypothesis that the relationship between maternal education and infants' diet is mediated by mothers' diet. The analyses included 421 mother-infant pairs from the Melbourne Infant Feeding Acti…
Tracking of maternal self-efficacy for limiting young children’s television viewing and associations with children’s television viewing time
Interventions to increase and maintain maternal self-efficacy for limiting children's television viewing time may result in lower rates of this behaviour amongst toddlers. Maternal and child characteristics may need to be considered when tailoring interventions
Mothers' perceptions of Melbourne InFant Program
Intervention programs to prevent childhood obesity are more likely to be successful when mothers are involved and engaged. Yet programs that involve mothers do not often employ process evaluation to identify aspects of the intervention that participants enjoyed or viewed as useful. The aims of this study were to describe how participants of the Melbourne InFANT Program-an early childhood obesity prevention intervention-engaged in the program and …
