  • Social support and dietary change among older adults

    Open Access•Philip Silverman, Philip M Silverman et al.•ARTICLE•Ageing and Society•2002•Citada por: 2

After a review of current conceptual models used in nutrition studies, we develop and test a ‘Dietary Change Model’ based on a sample of older rural adults. The model is tested on…

The data are based on a stratified probability sample of community living adults, aged 60 years and over, located in several rural communities in north-eastern Oregon. The dependent variables include three distinct measures of psychological well-being: life satisfaction, locus of control, and self-esteem. The independent var…

  • Role Conflict and Role Overload

    Open Access•Laura Hecht, Laura M Hecht•ARTICLE•Sociological Inquiry•2001•Citada por: 19•Referências: 15

The concepts of role conflict and role overload have been used, often interchangeably, to interpret sources of gender differences in role-related mental health among men and women who combine the roles of spouse, parent, and worker. However, these types of chronic role strains actually represent two distinct concepts. Definitions of the concepts suggest different contextual sources for these role difficulties as well as different mental health co…
