Isotopic Signature (δ 13 C, ∆ 14 C) of DIC in Sediment Pore Waters
A better understanding of the dynamics of different particulate organic matter (OM) pools in the coastal carbon budget is a key issue for quantifying the role of the coastal ocean in the global carbon cycle. To elucidate the benthic component of this carbon cycle at the land-sea interface, we investigated the carbon isotope signatures (δ 13 C and ∆ 14 C) in the sediment pore waters dissolved inorganic carbon (DIC) in addition to the sediment OM t…
Base level changes, river avulsions and Holocene human settlement dynamics in the Caspian Sea area (middle Kura valley, South Caucasus)
Temporal and Spatial Variations of Freshwater Reservoir Ages in the Loire River Watershed
In order to map the freshwater reservoir effect (FRE) variability of the Loire River and its tributaries, spatial and temporal carbon isotope ( 13 C and 14 C) analyses of the dissolved inorganic carbon (DIC) were conducted. Sites were selected to represent the diversity of geological settings, soil type, and land use. Results show a large spatial variability of 14 C FRE ranging between 135 and 2251±30 yr, objectively correlated to DIC contents an…

C Sources and Distribution in the Vicinity of La Hague Nuclear Reprocessing Plant
COGEMA-La Hague nuclear reprocessing plant in the Cotentin Peninsula (northwest France) releases in the atmosphere about 19 TBq.yr -1 of radiocarbon. Three experiments in a terrestrial environment with sampling of a bio-indicator like furze were performed in 1997, 1998, and 1999, and additional air samples in the chimney plume were measured. Results presented here establish the 14 C distribution in the La Hague environment and suggest that a part…
C Sources and Distribution in the Vicinity of La Hague Nuclear Reprocessing Plant
Carbon dioxide partial pressure and radiocarbon activity were measured in air and seawater in the Bay of Seine and around the COGEMA-La Hague nuclear reprocessing plant (northwest France) during 3 cruises in 2000 and 2002. Results clearly show that the sea is a source of CO 2 and 14 C to the atmosphere. High 14 C concentrations in air and water related to the La Hague liquid waste are clearly recorded. For the restricted area of the Bay of Seine,…
