Coverage of continuum of Maternal, Newborn and Child Health (MNCH) care in a nationally representative sample of 40,687 mother–child dyads of India
Odisha and a few other less-developed Indian states demonstrated that good CoC coverage can be achieved even with restricted resources, perhaps through strengthening of public health system. Other states should emulate and help India as a nation achieve full CoC coverage of all its mother-child dyads and attain MNCH-related sustainable development goals
Health System-Led Multimodal and Multilevel Interventions to Reduce Sickle Cell Disease-Related Stigma Among Tribal Populations in India
Development and implementation of a strategy for early diagnosis and management of scrub typhus
Scrub typhus, caused by Orientia tsutsugamushi , is a re-emerging zoonotic disease in the tropics with considerable morbidity and mortality rates. This disease, which is mostly prevalent in rural areas, remains underdiagnosed and underreported because of the low index of suspicion and non-specific clinical presentation. Limited access to healthcare, diagnostics, and treatment in rural settings further makes it challenging to distinguish it from o…
Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR)-Sickle Cell Disease (SCD) Stigma Scale for India (ISSSI)
To what extent classic socio-economic determinants explain trends of anaemia in tribal and non-tribal women of reproductive age in India? Findings from four National Family Heath Surveys (1998–2021)
The structural determinants wealth, education, food security, parity and urban amenities improved immensely in India but anaemia did not decline in this 23-year period. This implies that the "usual suspects" - the structural determinants are not the main drivers of anaemia in the country. The main driver may be absolute and/or functional deficiency status of micronutrients including iron attributable to inadequate uptake and absorption of these e…

Molecular variants of G6PD deficiency among certain tribal communities of Orissa, India
This study investigated the extent of molecular heterogeneity of the G6PD enzyme among certain aboriginal (tribal) populations of Orissa, an eastern Indian state, which is hyperendemic for Plasmodium falciparum malaria. A total of 3480 males from 14 tribal communities were screened, and 223 (6.4%) individuals were found to be G6PD deficient. Molecular analysis revealed that 59.2% of deficient individuals had the G6PD Orissa mutation and 37.2% had…
Effect of Anthelmintic/Anti Protozoal Treatment on the Nutritional Status of School Children in a Sub Urban Area of Orissa, India
Intestinal parasitic infestation is one of the multiple etiologies of malnutrition amongst school children in India. To determine whether successful deworming treatment improves physical growth. 297 school children (aged 4-15 years) in a suburban area were followed for one year No other intervention programmer was instituted during this period. Height and weight were measured at the baseline and one year after the study. Growth was measured in te…
