This study investigated the effects of two types of bilingual programs (two-way and transitional) on the academic performance and attitudes of fifth-grade students who entered kindergarten or first grade with different levels of English proficiency. This paper reports on the application of the Goodenough-Harris DAM test to a representative sample of 1,195 Iranian children (548 boys and 647 girls) aged between 6 years and 13 years and enrolled in grades 1 to 5 of eight public primary schools in the city of Shiraz, southern Iran.
