  • Research articles in Dreaming

    Curtiss Hoffman•ARTICLE•Dreaming•2013

This article reviews the entire range of research articles in Dreaming over the past 20 years to explore how consistently they adhere to scientific standards. Articles are reviewed on the basis of how precise their description of the participant group was in terms of sample size, mean age, gender, and ethnicity; the duration of the study; the level of accuracy accepted; the sampling methodology; the number of quantitative tests; the researchers’ …

  • Dumuzi's Dream

    Curtiss Hoffman•ARTICLE•Dreaming•2004•Citada por: 2•Referências: 3

Mesopotamian civilization was the first to develop writing and the first from which literary texts remain, dating back to the late 3rd millennium B.C. Some of these texts contain accounts of dreams, especially of royal figures. The earliest of these texts, evidently the earliest recorded dream in history, is the dream of Dumuzi of Uruk. This dream is embedded within the framework of the larger epic of the Descent of Inanna, and not only is the dr…

  • Close-interval Core Sampling

    Curtiss Hoffman•ARTICLE•Journal of Field Archaeology•1993•Referências: 7

Core sampling has often been used as a quick method of determining the presence or absence of prehistoric sites, although its accuracy and utility in locational studies have been rightly challenged. By taking multiple, close-interval (≤2 m) core samples, however, patterns of soil disturbance emerge which are quantitatively useful in determining site structure. The results of close-interval core sampling at sites in central southern New England ar…

  • Plow Zones and Predictability

    Open Access•Curtiss Hoffman•ARTICLE•North American Archaeologist•1983•Citada por: 3•Referências: 5

Archaeologists tend to regard plow zones of sites as having minimal importance for interpretive purposes. The present study describes three prehistoric sites in Massachusetts at which plow zone data—particularly in the lower 5 cm—can be shown to have predicted reliably the undisturbed subsoil contexts beneath. A hypothesis is offered as to what conditions allow maximum predictability of primary contexts from plow zones. It is suggested that archa…
