  • The Interdependent Nature of Well-Being: Evidence From American and Japanese Spouses

Open Access•Ryosuke Asano, Yuji Kanemasa et al.•ARTICLE•Personality and Social Psychology…•2026

The present study investigated spousal interdependencies in well-being and the sources of these interdependencies among Americans and Japanese. We collected high-powered three-wave longitudinal and cross-sectional data from a wide age range of participants ( N s = 3,012 American couples aged 26–96 and 2,307 Japanese couples aged 24–76) and assessed a variety of well-being measures. Study 1 replicated previous findings that American spouses’ well-…

  • Validation of the Satisfaction with Life Scale in Japan: A Large Sample Study

Ryosuke Asano, K Ito et al.•ARTICLE•Journal of Personality Assessment•2026

The Satisfaction with Life Scale (SWLS) is a widely used self-report measure of life satisfaction. Across four high-powered samples (total N = 14,913; age 18–79 years), we examined the construct validity of the Japanese version of the SWLS. The SWLS formed a single factor, with a mean score of 17.52. The SWLS achieved full strict measurement invariance across gender, age, and regional groups, while the scale showed partial strict measurement inva…

  • Temporal trends of environmental concern and potential influencing factors in the United States and China, 1945–2019

    Open Access•Xiaobin Lou, L M W Li et al.•ARTICLE•Asian Journal Of Social Psychology•2025

Past investigations into the temporal trends of environmental concern (EC) yielded varying results across different time spans and nations, highlighting the need for nation‐specific studies with extended time frames. Using data from Google Ngram Viewer, this pre‐registered study examined the temporal trends and influencing factors of EC as reflected in books published in the United States and China—the world's two largest greenhouse gas emitters—…

  • Compensating personal climate response inefficacy with political conservatism

    Open Access•Xiaobin Lou, L M W Li et al.•ARTICLE•Political Psychology•2025•Citada por: 1•Referências: 60

People grapple with the reality that their individual actions are too insignificant to impact climate change—a phenomenon known as personal climate response inefficacy. The compensatory control theory articulates that people may turn to overarching social institutions or ideologies (e.g., conservatism) when they lack personal control. Inspired by this theory, the present research explored whether individuals experiencing personal climate response…

  • Perception of emotional tears with body postures, visual scenes, and written scenarios

Open Access•K Ito, Chew Wei Ong•ARTICLE•Asian Journal Of Social Psychology•2023

Emotional tears tend to increase perceived sadness in facial expressions. However, it is unclear whether tears would still be seen as an indicator of sadness when a tearful face is observed in an emotional context (e.g., a touching moment during a wedding ceremony). We examine the influence of context on the sadness enhancement effect of tears in three studies. In Study 1, participants evaluated tearful or tearless expressions presented without b…

  • Unemployment rate predicts anger in popular music lyrics: Evidence from top 10 songs in the United States and Germany from 1980 to 2017

Lin Qiu, Sarah Hian May Chan et al.•ARTICLE•Psychology of Popular Media•2021

Popular music has been shown to reflect cultural characteristics and psychological change in a society. However, little is known about how popular songs are related to the socioeconomic conditions. In this research, we analyzed the annual top 10 songs from United States and Germany between 1980 and 2017, and found that the unemployment rate predicted the amount of anger but not anxiety or sadness in lyrics in both countries. Our research contribu…

  • Changing facebook profile pictures to dyadic photos: Positive association with romantic partners' relationship satisfaction via perceived partner commitment

Open Access•K Ito, Shanshan Yang et al.•ARTICLE•Computers in Human Behavior•2021

  • Low Residential Mobility and Novelty-Seeking Consumption

    Open Access•K Ito, Terri Su-May Tan et al.•ARTICLE•Journal of Cross-Cultural…•2019•Referências: 30

Cultural research using a socioecological perspective has shown that residential mobility fosters familiarity-seeking behavior. In particular, residentially mobile individuals tend to purchase from national chain stores, which offer the same products across different locations. Positing this process as a reaction to a rapidly changing high mobility environment, we investigated whether a low mobility environment-characterized by a more familiar, l…

  • Provenance of the Sandstone Used in the Construction of the Khmer Monuments in Thailand

    Open Access•Etsuo Uchida, K Ito et al.•ARTICLE•Archaeometry•2010•Citada por: 1•Referências: 5

We investigated the sandstone used in the construction of the Khmer monuments situated upon and around the Khorat Plateau in north‐east Thailand in order to clarify the provenance. The sandstones of the 22 investigated Khmer monuments can be classified into three groups. The sandstone of Group 1 is lithic and is derived mainly from the Khok Kruat Formation. This group includes the sandstone used at Phimai, Phnom Wan, Muang Khaek etc. The sandston…
