Planigraphic (Spatial) Distribution of Mitochondrial DNA Variants at the Andronovo Time Cemetery Tartas-1
The most informative funerary site documenting the Andronovo (Fedorovo) migration to the West Siberian forest-steppe is Tartas-1, where more than 600 burials of that period, associated with Late Krotovo (Cherno- Ozerye) and Andronovo (Fedorovo) cultures, have been excavated to date. On the basis of skeletal remains from these burials, we have formed and successfully analyzed 256 samples of mitochondrial DNA, uniformly covering the entire area of …
Diversity of Mitochondrial DNA Variants within Okunevo Culture Carriers from the Syda V Burial Ground (Minusinsk Basin)
Purpose. Despite a long study, the problem of the Okunevo population origin remains unresolved, including the level of participation of autochthonous and possible migrant groups in the formation of its genetic composition. The purpose of this article is to obtain new data on the mitochondrial DNA diversity in the Okunevo population, in particular in a series of samples from the Syda V burial ground, and also to interpret these new paleogenetic re…
A New Stage in Paleogenetic Study of the Odino Culture Population (Baraba Forest-Steppe)
A new stage in the paleogenetic study of the Odino culture populations includes the analysis of a series of paleoanthropological samples from four Odino burial grounds: Sopka-2/4a, Ust-Tartas-2, Tartas-1, and Preobrazhenka-6. The total number of the expanded Odino series includes more than 200 paleoanthropological samples (individuals). The research plan includes a significant increase in the number of mtDNA samples (up to ~150 samples) and obtai…
Genetic Composition of the Tagar Culture Population
Despite the high degree of archaeological and anthropological research of the Tagar culture and its carriers, many directions of study of this Sothern Siberian Iron Age population remain relevant. This work is devoted to the consideration of the data on the genetic composition of the Tagar culture population, obtained to date by paleogenetic methods. The study of representative mtDNA sample series from chronologically different groups of the Taga…
On the Issue of the Sarmatian Population Genetic Composition in the Lower Volga Region (Paleogenetic Data)
Introduction. The article presents the results of the analysis of mitochondrial DNA and Y-chromosome samples obtained from the representatives of Sarmatian populations from the Lower Volga region belonging to all stages of the culture. Methods and materials. The authors have screened samples from 202 individuals representing three cultural and chronological Sarmatian groups (Early Sarmatian, Middle Sarmatian and Late Sarmatian cultures). As a res…
The Paleogenetic Study of Bertek-33, an Afanasyevo Cemetery on the Ukok Plateau, the Altai Mountains
The Paleogenetic Study of Bertek-33, an Afanasyevo Cemetery on the Ukok Plateau, the Altai Mountains
We present the results of a paleogenetic analysis of bone samples representing seven adult individuals from Bertek-33—an Afanasyevo cemetery on the Ukok plateau, in the Altai Republic, Russia. The fi ndings are interpreted with reference to archaeological and anthropological data. Four systems of genetic markers were analyzed: mitochondrial DNA, polymorphic fragment of the amelogenin gene, autosomal STR-loci, and Y-chromosomal STR-loci. Genetic r…
