Living arrangements and loneliness of South Asian immigrant seniors in Edmonton, Canada
This paper examines the relationships between self-reported loneliness and living arrangements. A structured questionnaire with some open-ended questions was administered face-to-face in English, Hindi or Punjabi to a sample of 161 elderly South Asian immigrants 60 or more years of age living in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada in 2003. This article explores how elderly English-speaking Indian immigrant women living in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada perceive and manage mental distress. With elders' consent, in-depth interviews were recorded, transcribed and transcripts were thematically analyzed. This article describes how nurses cope with their concerns about acquiring HIV infection when caring for persons with AIDS (PWAs). In-depth interviews were conducted with 13 nurses who had cared for PWAs in an active treatment hospital in a Western Canadian city.
