Interviews and biographical time
In 1996-1997, I interviewed 30 men and women who, though infected with HIV nearly 10 years earlier, were still not sick and were not receiving treatment. The empirical data drawn from these interviews are used to show how the conditions and context of this research affected the stances adopted by interviewees and led them to centre their comments on their experience of time. In-depth interviews were conducted with 44 asymptomatic HIV-positive men infected through homosexual relations or medical treatment for haemophilia.
