Union Status and Sexual Risk Behavior Among Men in Their 30s
Men in their 30s, especially those who are not married, engage in risky sexual behaviors. Further studies are needed to assess what contributes to behavioral differences by union status and what types of services might help men in this age-group reduce their risk

Partner Effects on a Woman's Intention to Conceive
CONTEXT: Current definitions of pregnancy intention that are useful at aggregate levels are weak at the individual level. This is especially true in social contexts where childbearing and pregnancy often occur within casual or transient relationships. METHODS: Extensive data on lifetime partnerships and sexual behaviors, including pregnancies and births, from 250 low-income women who had experienced a total of 839 pregnancies are used to explore …
Do Adolescents Want Babies? The Relationship Between Attitudes and Behavior
A prospective study of 313 Black adolescents who were followed for 2 years after presenting for a pregnancy test at an inner-city clinic in Baltimore suggested the need for greater attention to the concept of ambivalence in analyses of adolescent pregnancy. 80% of respondents were 15-17 years of age, 62% were public assistance recipients, and 76% were from female-headed households. Dependency in Urban Black Families Following the Birth of an Adolescent's Child
Correlates of change in short-term economic dependency are explored in households of 307 urban black adolescents, approximately half of whom bring babies into the family. Correlates of increased dependency differ with dependency defined as proportion of household members employed as opposed to dependency. The key explanatory variable with both definitions is the adolescent's employment status. Presence of her baby significantly affects an adolesc…
