Evaluating risk factors and protective clinical interventions for opioid use disorder and overdose in American Indian/Alaska Native populations
American Indian/Alaska Native (AI/AN) populations often experience higher rates of opioid use disorder (OUD) and opioid overdose deaths compared to other racial/ethnic groups. This study evaluates modifiable risk factors and protective clinical interventions for OUD and overdose prevention interventions among AI/AN patients to understand potential points of intervention. This retrospective cohort study utilized electronic health record data from …
Generating the evidence base for implementation strategies targeting colorectal cancer screening in the accelerating colorectal cancer screening through implementation science (ACCSIS) research projec…
Implementing evidence-based interventions for population-level benefit can be challenging in resource-limited primary care settings. Research is needed to identify, specify, and systematically study implementation strategies that address the multilevel, contextual influences on implementation in these settings. This study reviewed and compared the implementation strategies proposed by Research Projects (RPs) funded through the Accelerating Colore…
Trends in and factors associated with family physician‐performed screening colonoscopies in the United States
PURPOSE: Family physician (FP)-performed screening colonoscopies can serve as 1 strategy in the multifaceted strategy necessary to improve national colorectal cancer screening rates, particularly in rural areas where specialist models can fail. However, little research exists on the performance of this strategy in the real world. In this study, we evaluated trends in and factors associated with FP-performed screening colonoscopies in the United S…
Quantifying the Burden of Opioid Use Disorder and Non-fatal Opioid Overdose in American Indian and Alaskan Native Populations Using the Cerner Real-World DataTM Database
Hospitalizations for Covid-19 Among American Indian and Alaska Native Adults (≥ 18 Years Old) — New Mexico, March–September 2020
Sexuality and Gender Identity Inequities in Substance Use Disorder and Its Treatment among American Indian, Alaska Native, and Native Hawaiian College Students
BACKGROUND: The aim of this study was to investigate inequities in substance use disorder (SUD) diagnosis, opioid misuse, marijuana misuse, SUD treatment utilization, and utilization of university mental health services among sexual and gender minority (SGM) American Indian, Alaska Native, and Native Hawaiian (AI/AN/NH) college students. METHODS: Data consisting of 8,103 AI/AN/NH students' responses to the American College Health Association's Na…
Associations between problematic internet use and substance misuse among US college students
A trend analysis of the prevalence of opioid misuse, social support, and suicide attempt among American Indian/Alaska native high school students in New Mexico
No significant trend was observed for suicide attempt. We observed a significant decreasing trend in opioid misuse between 2009 through 2017 but a significant increase from 2017 to 2019. A higher level of maternal education (college or above), and an A or B school grade performance were protective against both opioid misuse and suicide attempt
Trends in the Use of Naltrexone for Addiction Treatment among Alcohol Use Disorder Admissions in U.S. Substance Use Treatment Facilities
Naltrexone remains underutilized for AUD, and factors that influence prescription of medication are multifaceted. This study may contribute to the creation of effective interventions aimed at reducing naltrexone disparities for AUD
Factors associated with the availability of tailored programs for LGBT clients in substance use disorder treatment facilities in the U.S. from 2008 to 2018
This paper examines the factors that are associated with the availability of tailored programs for LGBT clients in substance use disorder (SUD) treatment facilities in the U.S. from 2008 to 2018. Associations were determined by using pooled odds ratios overtime from multivariable logistic regression modeling utilizing the 2008–2018 data from the U.S. National Survey of Substance Abuse Treatment Services (N-SSATS). In 2018, roughly one in five fac…
