  • How "Collective" Is Union Citizenship Behavior? Assessing Individual and Coworker Antecedents

Open Access•Ed Snape, Tom Redman et al.•ARTICLE•Industrial and Labor Relations…•2014•Citada por: 1•Referências: 49

Contributing to an emerging literature on solidarity or group-norm effects on union participation, the authors examine the extent to which union citizenship behavior (UCB) can be characterized as a collective phenomenon. Findings from studies of UK local government workers and teachers suggest that, for organization-focused behaviors, it is meaningful to think of collective or group-level UCB. Furthermore, group-level UCB had a significant positi…

  • Civic Duty and Employee Outcomes

    Open Access•Julian Gould‐Williams, JULIAN S GOULD‐WILLIAMS et al.•ARTICLE•Public Administration•2013•Citada por: 10•Referências: 16

This article tests the impact of two organization‐relevant factors, high commitment human resource practices ( HCHRP ) and work overload on a component of public service motivation, civic duty and employee outcomes (job satisfaction, affective commitment, and quit intentions). Local government employees in Wales (n=1,755) were used to test our research hypotheses. Results show that both HCHRP and work overload had direct and indirect affects (via…

  • The Janus face of paternalistic leaders

    Open Access•Simon C H Chan, Xu Huang et al.•ARTICLE•Journal of Organizational Behavior•2012•Citada por: 24•Referências: 9

We investigated how the two components of paternalistic leadership, namely authoritarianism and benevolence, jointly influenced work performance through their impacts on organization‐based self‐esteem (OBSE). Using a sample of 686 supervisor–subordinate dyads collected from a manufacturing firm in the People's Republic of China, we found that OBSE mediated the negative relationship between authoritarian leadership on one hand and subordinate task…

  • The Three-Component Model of Occupational Commitment

    Open Access•Ed Snape, Carlos Wing-Hung Lo et al.•ARTICLE•Journal of Cross-Cultural…•2008•Citada por: 2•Referências: 27

The authors find some support for the cross-cultural validity of the Meyer, Allen, and Smith (1993) three-component model of occupational commitment in samples of Chinese and British accountants. Normative and affective commitments are higher in the Chinese sample, and continuance commitment is higher in the British sample. There is some support for hypotheses on the consequences of the components of occupational commitment (occupational withdraw…

  • Age Stereotypes and Discriminatory Attitudes towards Older Workers

    Open Access•Warren C K Chiu, Andy W Chan et al.•ARTICLE•Human Relations•2001•Citada por: 64•Referências: 25

This study compared age stereotypes among 567 respondents sampled in the UK and Hong Kong and examined how these stereotypes were related to discriminatory attitudes at work. Compared to the Hong Kong sample, UK respondents saw older workers as more effective at work, but less adaptable to change. As expected, respondents' own age was predictive of positive age stereotypes, although for supervisors this relationship was moderated in the case of p…
