  • Modlniczka – the first cemetery of the Linear Pottery Culture in Poland in light of interdisciplinary analyses

    Agnieszka Czekaj-Zastawny, Marcin M Przybyła et al.•ARTICLE•Praehistorische Zeitschrift•2026

The discovery of the first LBK cemetery, and a cremation one at that, is an exceptional fact not only for Poland, but also for the entire eastern edge of this culture. This discovery has significantly enriched our knowledge of the LBK burial rites, as until recently only individual graves and small burial complexes within or on the outskirts of settlements were known from the area of Poland. Therefore, it was particularly important to conduct a w…

  • Technological Insights into Early Medieval Slavic Lead-Glazed Pottery

Bartłomiej Szymon Szmoniewski, Ewelina Miśta-Jakubowska et al.•ARTICLE•Światowit•2025

This study examines the technological development and material composition of glazed pottery from Lesser Poland, highlighting two distinct glazing horizons spanning the 11th to 13th centuries. Employing analytical methods, including lead isotope analysis (MC-ICP-MS), SEM-EDS, and pXRD, the research establishes a connection between early glazing practices and regional polymetallic ore deposits from Upper Silesia. The findings reveal a significant …

  • More than a ware. Preliminary observations on the typological, mineralogical, and chemical diversity of cream wares from Jordan (mid-8th to 11th centuries)

Open Access•Piotr Makowski, Maciej Kałaska et al.•ARTICLE•Journal of Archaeological Science…•2025

Wide spectrum of cream wares from mid-8th to 11th centuries expands ’ware’ concept. • Cream wares exhibit regional diversity in terms of compositional characteristics. • Multiple workshops produced cream wares within a single ’signature style’. • Significant compositional and technological differences exist between main sub-categories of Islamic Cream Ware. The ceramic repertoire of Jordan, as well as that of the wider Bilad al-Sham, underwent si…

  • Interdisciplinary Insights Into Ochre Burial Rituals in Eastern Slovakia in the Beginning of the 3rd Millennium bc

Open Access•Paweł Jarosz, Eva Horváthová et al.•ARTICLE•Archaeometry•2025•Referências: 27

This study investigates ochre from a Yamna culture grave in Michaľany, Eastern Slovakia. Radiocarbon dating resulted in 4330 ± 35 BP, calibrated to 3010–2898 bc . The grave's construction and dating confirm its cultural attribution. SEM and Raman spectrometry identified a red substance as hematite, representing the first evidence of its use in Yamna funerary practices in this region. Geochemical analysis suggests a local origin, likely linked to …

  • Origins of medieval lead glass ornaments in Central Europe in the light of lead isotopic analysis of finds from Wrocław and Sypniewo (Poland)

  • Application of arsenic surveying for determining the position of former mining and metallurgical constructions

Open Access•Maciej Kałaska, Rafał Siuda et al.•ARTICLE•Archaeological and Anthropological…•2022•Referências: 31

Soil geochemical prospecting is becoming an increasingly important part of archaeological research. Therefore, it is possible to determine the location of various archaeological facilities that no longer exist in the study region. In this study, a morphological analysis of the "Stara Góra" deposit in Radzimowice (Lower Silesia, Poland) was performed using LiDAR DTM (light detection and ranging digital terrain model) images and historical data tha…

  • Application of electron microprobe analysis to identify the origin of ancient pottery production from the Castillo de Huarmey, Peru

Open Access•Maciej Kałaska, Isabelle Druc et al.•ARTICLE•Archaeometry•2020•Citada por: 1•Referências: 38

A vast amount of ceramics (among other grave goods) were recovered from Castillo de Huarmey, a Wari culture (650–1050 ce ) archaeological site on the north coast of Peru. In order to assess ceramic production area(s) and possible trade, political or cultural interactions with other regions, and to complement earlier petrographic analysis, electron microprobe analysis (EMPA) was conducted following a rarely used methodology in archaeology. The che…

  • Late Palaeolithic and Mesolithic Treatment and Use of Non-flint Stone Raw Materials

Open Access•Grzegorz Osipowicz, Piotr Chachlikowski et al.•ARTICLE•Archaeologia Polona•2018
