The hidden cost of coordination in tourism destinations
This paper revisits the canonical result that coordination among suppliers of complementary tourism services–such as accommodation, transport, and local activities–typically raises profits while increasing output and lowering consumer prices. We introduce a novel mechanism: labor market feedback. When firms share a common labor pool, coordination internalizes a cost externality that can overturn the traditional outcome. A note on the contribution of Valuation economics in tourism
Valuation economics is a field which promises a wide range of applications for tourism. This paper aims to briefly conceptualize these opportunities with examples on the methods and relevant examples of literature and pave the way towards their accommodation in the emerging tour…
Asymmetries in European inbound and outbound tourism
This paper studies aggregate inbound and outbound tourist demand in Europe for 1995-2015 with a new panel quantile regression approach. It employs tourist arrivals, tourist receipts and tourist expenditure. Besides real domestic income and real exchange rate, the demand is instrumented with environmental degradation and trade openness. Results show that tourism behaves like a normal good when tourist arrivals are used as a predictor of demand and…

This study demonstrates the effects of framing safety precautions on the presentation of a controversial product (recycled water [RW]) to the inhabitants of two Greek towns by asking them whether they would visit various configurations of a public park irrigated with RW. The same questions are posed in an additional version augmented with a safety alert. Among many others, results mainly show that willingness to visit (WTV) a park irrigated with …
