  • Evaluating the potential of in-depth chrono-cultural and functional analysis of pottery in European cave archaeology

Open Access•Dorian Carloni, Délia Carloni et al.•ARTICLE•Archaeological and Anthropological…•2026•Referências: 92

This paper evaluates the potential of in-depth chronological and functional analysis of prehistoric pottery (4th millennium BCE) from the Grotte di Sant’Angelo Cave Complex, located in the municipality of Cassano allo Ionio (Calabria, Southern Italy). The underground system, formed by sulfuric acid speleogenesis, features a floor scattered with depressions, holes, and fractures of different depths hosting archaeological materials. A number of the…

  • Human impact and landscape changes between 3000 and 1000 BC on the Tropea Promontory (Calabria, Italy)

    Open Access•Halinka Di Lorenzo, Reinhard Jung et al.•ARTICLE•The Holocene•2021•Citada por: 1•Referências: 15

Pollen data were collected from a one-meter peat succession recovered from the top of the Tropea Promontory (Calabria), a territory continuously inhabited throughout Prehistory and Protohistory. The peat was deposited in a small pond/marsh that was gradually filled up. Six 14 C dates allowed the peat growth to be constrained to between ca. 3000 and 1000 calBC. Considerable landscape and land use changes occurred in the area in that time interval,…

  • The transition from village communities to protourban societies

    Marco Pacciarelli•CHAPTER•Etruscology•2017

In Italy, the research devoted to the origins o f the protourban centers in recent decades has clearly evidenced a rapid, profound and very early protourban reorganization began during the tenth century BCE in Etruria, the Veneto and other areas. The epicenter of this radical transformation-and also the best-studied area-is the southern part of Etruria (nowadays northern Latium). In this area, there is evidence of a very rapid change that happene…

  • Evidence of a short-lived episode of olive ( Olea europaea L.) cultivation during the Early Bronze Age in western Mediterranean (southern Italy)

    Open Access•A D''Auria, Mauro Paolo Buonincontri et al.•ARTICLE•The Holocene•2016

Anthracological analysis was carried out in the archaeological site of Punta di Zambrone on the Tyrrhenian coast of Calabria in southern Italy. Archaeological excavation documented at the site settlement deposits dated mainly to Early Bronze Age (EBA, 21st–18th century BC) and the Recent Bronze Age (RBA, 13th to early 12th century BC). In the phase of the EBA village, the high frequency of Olea europaea in the charcoal data suggests the tree may …

  • Punta di Zambrone (Calabria) – a Bronze Age Harbour Site. First Preliminary Report on the Recent Bronze Age (2011– 2012 Campaigns)

Open Access•Reinhard Jung, Marco Pacciarelli et al.•ARTICLE•Archaeologia Austriaca•2015

This article is a preliminary report of two seasons of excavation at the Bronze Age site of Punta di Zambrone in southern Calabria (Italy). Two main habitation phases could be identified dating to the Early and the Recent Bronze Age respectively. The ashy layers of the Recent Bronze Age phase (13th – 12th centuries BCE) contained an exceptionally high quantity of Aegean-type ceramics, other Aegean-type objects and large amounts of local artefacts…

  • Vaghi e pendenti litici dell’età del bronzo dalla Sicilia e dalle Eolie

Open Access•Ilaria Matarese, Anita Crispino et al.•ARTICLE•Archaeologia Austriaca•2015•Citada por: 2

The present work is devoted to the study of stone beads and pendants from Bronze Age sites in Sicily and the Aeolian Islands. Macroscopic geological examination made it possible to identify the rock types and in some cases their probable provenance. A chronological and typological analysis of the objects as well as graphic and photographic documentation completes the study of the stone artifacts. Comparative research throughout the Mediterranean …
