A distressing and peculiar disease
This study explores how endometriosis has been represented and framed historically in the Australian press. Analysis of 80 articles published between 1949 and 2011 was conducted. Articles were examined for their framing, themes, and voices in a decade-by-decade format. Results found that endometriosis was overwhelmingly framed as a comorbidity to infertility during this timeframe, and experts were commonly sourced compared to patients with the di…
Informal Practices of Localizing Open Educational Resources in Ghana
Research on the use of Open Educational Resources (OER) often notes the potential benefits for users to revise, reuse, and remix OER to localize it for specific learners. However, a gap in the literature exists in terms of research that explores how this localization occurs in practice. This is a significant gap given the current flow of OER from higher-income countries in the Global North to lower-income countries in the Global South (King et al…
The impact of demographic factors and ethnicity on academic help-seeking behaviours in a multicultural university context
This research used three scales to explore ethnicity and other variables' effects on university students' self-assessed academic help-seeking. The scores from each respective scale were regressed onto academic and demographic variables. In two of the three regression models, Age was the only significant factor, older students self-assessing as less avoidant and more persuaded of the benefits of help-seeking. However, investigating an interaction …
Sediment Evidence of Early Eutrophication and Heavy Metal Pollution of Lake Mälaren, Central Sweden
Lake Mälaren is the water supply and recreation area for more than 1 million people in central Sweden and subject to considerable environmental concern. To establish background data for assessments of contemporary levels of trophy and heavy metal pollution, sediment cores from the lake were analyzed. Diatom–inferred lake–water phosphorus concentrations suggest that pre-20th century nutrient levels in Södra Björkfjärden, a basin in the eastern par…
