Femicide, the homicide of women, is the seventh leading cause of premature death for women overall. Intimate partner (IP) homicide accounts for approximately 40% to 50% of U.S. femicides. Risk Factors for Femicide in Abusive Relationships
Objectives. This 11-city study sought to identify risk factors for femicide in abusive relationships. Methods. Proxies of 220 intimate partner femicide victims identified from police or medical examiner records were interviewed, along with 343 abused control women. Results. To help a broad array of practitioners identify women at greatest risk, the Chicago Women's Health Risk Study explored factors indicating significant danger of death or life-threatening injury in intimate violence situations.
