  • Comparing Name Generator Designs in Panel Personal Network Data

Open Access•Marian-Gabriel Hâncean, Jürgen Lerner et al.•ARTICLE•CAM•2026

We conducted a two-wave personal network study in a rural Romanian community. We interviewed 68 participants twice using different name generators. The first wave used a fixed-choice generator (25 alters) focused on emotional closeness. The second wave, six months later, used a non-fixed generator based on frequent interaction. This change responded to feedback that the fixed-choice format was burdensome. The study illustrates how adapting design…

  • Adapting Longitudinal Personal Network Research Through Participation

    Open Access•Marian-Gabriel Hâncean, C Mccarty et al.•ARTICLE•International Journal of…•2026

Longitudinal personal network studies make unique contributions to understanding how social contexts evolve. These studies have primarily been conducted in structured environments, such as hospitals, schools, workplaces, or large urban populations, where participants are easily reached, and standardized tools can be applied. These conditions differ from those in rural communities, where services are scarce, commuting is a part of daily life, and …

  • Perceptions Towards the Adoption of Multi-Risk Factors Cancer Prevention Educational Tool Among European Union Citizens

    Open Access•Ariadna Feliu, Bibiana Barrera et al.•ARTICLE•International Journal of…•2024•Citada por: 1•Referências: 20

Background: Cancer is a major public health problem. Four million new cancer cases are diagnosed annually in Europe, of which around 40% could be prevented. The European Code Against Cancer (ECAC) is a health education tool to raise awareness about risk factors and evidence-based measures to prevent cancer. The ECAC 4th edition consists of 12 recommendations to reduce individuals’ cancer risk and related deaths. This study explores perceived barr…

  • Micro-level network dynamics of scientific collaboration and impact

    Open Access•Jürgen Lerner, Marian-Gabriel Hâncean•ARTICLE•Network Science•2022•Citada por: 4•Referências: 12

We discuss a recently proposed family of statistical network models—relational hyperevent models (RHEMs)—for analyzing team selection and team performance in scientific coauthor networks. The underlying rationale for using RHEM in studies of coauthor networks is that scientific collaboration is intrinsically polyadic, that is, it typically involves teams of any size. Consequently, RHEM specify publication rates associated with hyperedges represen…

  • Short Take

    Open Access•J L Molina, M J Lubbers et al.•ARTICLE•CAM•2022•Citada por: 3•Referências: 19

Thanks to the latest developments in network-oriented sampling, it is now possible to measure "transnational social fields," or emergent social structures that connect places or regions in different countries. These structures are instrumental in explaining sociocultural phenomena like the emergence of ethnic or demographic enclaves, social and economic remittances, and ethnic identifications. Nevertheless, they have only been mentioned metaphori…
