Sandy Lile, Sandy Liles et al.•ARTICLE•Deviant Behavior•2023•Citada por: 1•Referências: 33

This study explored contextual variables within strip clubs employing exotic dancers as well as dancers’ characteristics, as potential correlates of prostitution. Face-to-face anonymous interviews were conducted with exotic dancers in San Diego County (N = 123). Logistic regression revealed that nonwhite race, allowing customer touching, illegal drug use, and number of dances per shift were significant predictors of prostitution, while childhood …

  • Balance performance and related soft tissue components across three age groups

Young-Shin Lee, Jeanne F Nichols et al.•ARTICLE•Health Care For Women International•2019

With the aging process, falls and related injuries are common and unwanted events among older women. Lost balance is the last step before the frequent experience of falls. After menopause, women's bone conditions regarding health and balance performance steeply decline often resulting in serious injury. Our purpose in the study is to identify balance performance and its associations with soft tissue components among Korean-American (KA) women wit…

Michelle C Kegler, Lucja Bundy et al.•ARTICLE•American Journal of Public Health•2015•Citada por: 3•Referências: 52

Objectives. We tested the efficacy of a minimal intervention to create smoke-free homes in low-income households recruited through the United Way of Greater Atlanta 2-1-1, an information and referral system that connects callers to local social services. Methods. We conducted a randomized controlled trial (n = 498) from June 2012 through June 2013, with follow-up at 3 and 6 months. The intervention consisted of 3 mailings and 1 coaching call. Res…

  • Predictors of tobacco use initiation in adolescents

Dennis R Wahlgren, Mel Hovell et al.•ARTICLE•Tobacco Control•1997

Findings support predictions based on learning theory that social processes are critical in the development of health-risk behaviours. Future preventive efforts should target changing the density with which young people encounter pro- and anti-tobacco prompts and consequences in the community

This analysis assessed 18-30-month weight loss maintenance following treatment with both behavior modification and supplemented fasting procedures for 400 patients. Fifty-five per cent of the patients who started treatment discontinued prior to completing the program. Patients who completed treatment lost a mean of 83.9 per cent of their excess weight, but regained an average of 59 per cent to 82 per cent of their initial excess weight by 30 mont…

  • The experimental evidence for weight-loss treatment of essential hypertension

    Mel Hovell, M F Hovell•ARTICLE•American Journal of Public Health•1982

The empirical evidence concerning the therapeutic effects of weight loss for hypertension treatment was reviewed. Interventions were critically reviewed for strength of measures and experimental design. Six of 21 intervention studies proved to be methodologically strong. However, only one study was considered a randomized clinical trial, testing the combined effects of weight reduction and pharmacological treatment of hypertension. Average blood …
