  • Middle Pleistocene seismically induced clay diapirism in an intraplate zone, western Brittany, France

    Open Access•Brigitte Van Vliet-Lanoë, Brigitte Van Vliet‐Lanoë et al.•ARTICLE•Quaternary Research•2019

The Brittany region of France is located in a low seismicity intraplate zone. Most of the instrumented earthquakes are limited to a shallow crustal depth without surface rupture. A paleoseismological analysis was performed on deposits on the Crozon Peninsula and in the Elorn estuary. We highlight hydroplastic deformations induced by liquefaction leading to clay diapirism, which were likely triggered by past earthquakes. This diapirism seems to be…

  • Menez-Dregan 1 (Plouhinec, Finistère, France)

    Open Access•Jean-Laurent Monnier, Jean‐laurent Monnier et al.•ARTICLE•L Anthropologie•2016

  • Reconstruction of the Middle-Late Pleistocene and Holocene palaeoenvironments of the Piégu Palaeolithic site (Brittany, France) based on biostratigraphical data

Open Access•Guzel Danukalova, Bernard Hallégouët et al.•ARTICLE•ArchéoSciences•2015•Referências: 5

This paper is devoted to the reconstruction of the palaeoenvironment of the surroundings of the Piégu archaeological site located in Brittany (France). For the first time a full set of the onshore and offshore stratigraphical subdivisions is described following three sections. These fundamental data were remaining unpublished up to now. The Western, Eastern and Offshore sections are illustrated by many different figures. The malacological determi…

  • Middle- to late-Holocene storminess in Brittany (NW France)

    Open Access•Brigitte Van Vliet-Lanoë, Brigitte Van Vliet‐Lanoë et al.•ARTICLE•The Holocene•2014•Citada por: 5•Referências: 11

This study focuses on the recurring climate conditions required for the largest storms occurring in NW France (Brittany). It is based on the analysed records of storm events along Western Brittany coast (see Part I). In this manuscript (Part II), storm recurrence is explored along with forcing mechanisms. Periods of more frequent storm events over the two last centuries are analysed first in order to link these events with possible forcing mechan…

  • Middle- to late-Holocene storminess in Brittany (NW France)

    Open Access•Brigitte Van Vliet-Lanoë, Brigitte Van Vliet‐Lanoë et al.•ARTICLE•The Holocene•2014•Citada por: 3•Referências: 10

Our study aims to understand the recurring climatic conditions prevailing during the largest storms reaching NW France (Brittany). These storms are responsible for the breaching of coastal barriers and major flooding of lowlands. In a first part of our work, we examine the morphological impact and stratigraphic record of storm events along Western Brittany rocky coasts, with a special focus on the southern coast of the Bay of Audierne, the most e…

Ménez-Drégan I (Brittany, France) fits in the « Colombanian » regional group, defined in the South-Armorican area. It is a very important site for the study of the Lower Palaeolithic of North-Western France. The prehistoric settlements were sheltered in an old marine notch, where two pebble layers have been deposited. The first palaeolithic layer is at the top of the first fossil beach. At the top and above the second beach, five other humic laye…
