Real-world evidence of the collective effects of psychedelic therapy
With a surge in critiques levelled against the evidence generated by randomised controlled trials in the study of psychedelic-assisted therapy (PAT), and the legalization of PAT in select jurisdictions such as Australia, and Oregon and Colorado in the United States, we consider what form the real-world evidence of its effects could take. Recent years have seen a renewed interest in integrating creative activities into statutory mental health practice in high‐income countries. In this article, we offer an exploratory analysis of an arts project delivered within UK mental health services, Creativity for Enablement and Wellbeing (CREW). Drawing on data collected for a process evaluation of the project, we suggest that conceptualising CREW as liminal and liminoid provides a helpful w…

Forensic psychiatric institutions are tasked with both containment and transformation, with securely policing the border between institution and society and readying patients for return to the community. Research grants are resources in academic stratification that may be distributed by performance criteria or by particularism or favor. This paper explores determinants of grant getting, using a subsample draw from a 1972-73 general national survey of faculty in higher education. The findings show that grant getting depends primarily on productivity, secondarily on the inequalities in favor shown to specific fields, and very little on particularis…
