Evidence for the exchange or diffusion of religious traditions between ancient Egypt and neighbouring Africa is usually confined to the cultures of the Nile corridor in Nubia. Radiocarbon Determination of Past Growth Rates of Living Acacia Tortilis Trees from Two Arid Sites in the Eastern Sahara
Reconstructions arc presented of past growth rates of 10 Acacia tortilis trees, 5 growing at an arid site (Gebeit, Sudan) and 5 at a hyperarid site (Wadi Nuqrus, Egypt). The reconstructions were made using a free-shape age-depth model based on a series of 14 C dates obtained on samples taken along the wood cores retrieved from the trunks of the trees (78 dates in total). Mudbrick as a bearer of agricultural information
This study discusses the use of palynological methods in Egyptian archaeology. In particular, it presents for the first time a palynological investigation of mudbrick as a potential bearer of agricultural information in the Nile Valley. Three samples were taken from mudbricks at the Giza Pyramid Area to be analysed for their pollen content.
