Bio-medical anthropological perspective on urban-rural and socioeconomic disparities in Eastern Croatia
Background: Cardiovascular diseases (CVDs) remain the leading cause of death in Croatia, accounting for 37% of all deaths, with a standardized mortality rate of 572.8/100,000, substantially exceeding the EU average of 367.6/100,000. The Osijek-Baranja region in eastern Croatia, characterized by both continental climate and significant urban-rural gradients, presents a particularly high burden of modifiable CVD risk factors. Bio-medical anthropolo…
The Relationship Between Artificial Sweetener Intake from Soft Drinks and Internet Addiction Among Students
The increasing consumption of artificially sweetened beverages among young people, coupled with prevalent digital technology use, presents growing public health concerns regarding potential effects on health and behavior. Impact of Covid-19 on Mental Health
Sociodemographic characteristics were significant predictors of mental health during the pandemic. Religiosity emerged as an important factor, particularly in moderating the relationship between sociodemographic characteristics and mental health. The Deficit and Contextual Models of Vaccine Hesitancy
The prevalence of vaccine hesitancy underscores the fact that the general public does not uniformly embrace scientific recommendations. Vaccine hesitancy represents a spectrum, encompassing both those who accept all vaccines and those who outright reject them. This paper aims to explore the relationship between science literacy, contextual factors, and vaccine hesitancy while accounting for specific mediation mechanisms. The authors applied a the…
Different Patterns of Mental Health Outcomes among Road Traffic Crash Survivors
This study aimed to investigate factors associated with the symptoms of mental disorders following a road traffic crash (RTC). A prospective cohort of 200 people was followed for 6 months after experiencing an RTC. The cohort was comprised of uninjured survivors and injured victims with all levels of road traffic injury (RTI) severity. Multivariable logistic regression analyses were performed to evaluate the associations between the symptoms of d…

The aim of this study was to examine the prevalence of EV among Croatian women, to identify the main forms of …
Čimbenici povezani s osljedama u cestovnom prometu i njihovom težinom
Road traffic injuries cause considerable losses to individuals, their families, and to nations as a whole. Factors related to road traffic injuries and to the severity of such injuries have not been fully elucidated or evaluated. The aim of this study was to explore factors related to road traffic injuries and their severity in cohort of 200 road traffic accident (RTA) survivors from Eastern Croatia. Sustaining injury was associated with rural re…
Psoriasis Severity—A Risk Factor of Insulin Resistance Independent of Metabolic Syndrome
Psoriasis severity is an independent risk factor of HOMA-IR, the strongest association being present in the non-MetS group, who still had preserved beta cell function suggesting direct promotion of atherosclerosis via insulin resistance depending on the disease severity, but irrespective of the presence of metabolic syndrome
Nutrition Counselling Practices among General Practitioners in Croatia
Chronic non-communicable diseases are a significant public health problem and imbalanced nutrition is one of the most significant risk factor for them. The objective of this study was to examine Croatia's general practitioners' nutrition counselling practice and determine the factors that influence such practice. A cross-sectional study was conducted among 444 (17.0%) randomly selected general practitioners (GPs) in Croatia from May to July 2013 …
